The international AI-TEACH Summer School, AI in Education: From Awareness to Practice, took place at the University of Rzeszów from 30 August to 4 September 2026. Organised as part of the Erasmus+ project AI-TEACH: Enhancing Teachers’ AI Literacy, the Summer School brought together participants from different European countries for an intensive and inspiring week. Through workshops, discussions and hands-on activities, participants explored how future teachers can be prepared to use artificial intelligence critically, responsibly and meaningfully.
Drawing on Holmes’ (2022) framework of learning about AI and learning with AI, the programme addressed a wide range of topics. These included the possibilities and limitations of generative AI, ethical considerations, bias and stereotypes, prompting, lesson and learning-material design, the role of AI in assessment, and the analysis of learning.
From theory to classroom practice
A key aim of the Summer School was to bridge the gap between theory and classroom practice. Participants developed lesson scenarios and had the opportunity to put them into practice with students from IX Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Rzeszów. The activities focused on both learning about AI and learning with AI, and received a very positive response from the secondary-school students.
International and intercultural exchange
The programme also created valuable opportunities to exchange experiences and perspectives across countries. By working together throughout the week, participants strengthened their international cooperation and intercultural competences.
Beyond the workshops, participants explored Rzeszów and the wider Podkarpacie region. They discovered the region’s cultural heritage and pottery traditions during a visit to Medynia Głogowska, further encouraging mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue.
The Summer School also resulted in a range of creative student work. Participants combined visual art with poetry and created handmade clay pieces and painted ceramic tiles as personal interpretations of their AI-TEACH experience.
Thank you
We would like to thank all Summer School participants, workshop facilitators, project partners, the community of IX Liceum Ogólnokształcące, and the different units of the University of Rzeszów involved in organising the programme.
AI is changing education. However, it is teachers’ knowledge, critical judgement and decisions that will ultimately shape its place in the classroom. Find out more about the programme on the AI-TEACH Summer School page of the University of Rzeszów.
